A FORMER Sydney model and travel consultant who moved to Melbourne only weeks ago is fighting for her life after being shot in yesterday's bloody rampage.
Kaera Douglas was hoping to re-start her life in Melbourne after breaking up with her boyfriend only weeks ago.
But yesterday's shooting in Melbourne CBD left her critically injured.
Ms Douglas lost a kidney from the gunshot and was in a serious but stable condition in Royal Melbourne Hospital last night.
Her mother was maintaining a bedside vigil but told the media: My daughter is fighting for her life.
She added: I just feel so sorry for the other family.
Ms Douglas is originally from Melbourne but split her life between the two cities, moving wherever work took her.
The stunning woman has been modelling for close to 10 years, splitting her work between photo shoots and promotional work.
Some of her latest work has been featured on the CMD Models website.
Owner Carley Downward said Ms Douglas had been living in Sydney for a while but had recently moved back.
She's really bubbly and outgoing, Ms Downward said.
Last night the family and friends of heroic lawyer Brendan Keilar comforted his distraught widow Alice.
Mr Keilar leaves behind an eight-year-old son Charlie, and daughters Phoebe, 6, and Lucy, 4.
Friend Justin Gray said Mr Keilar, who specialised in commercial property developments, had been an outgoing character who would always step in to help people in need.
That is exactly the sort of thing you would expect him to do, Mr Gray said.
I think the woman was dragged into his path and he would have reacted instinctively.
