She spent some time exploring her plans and ambitions. Read on. Boredom is something that Bollywood actor Bipasha Basu cannot stand. The gorgeous artiste left the glitzy world of professional modelling precisely for this reason, foraying into the highly competitive world of Hindi films. The chief guest at an exhibition of lithographs here in the Capital this past Friday, Bipasha is clear about one thing she will switch over to direction or script writing the day she gets fed up with acting. Surprisingly Bipasha never aspired to become an actress in the first place. Offers At the moment, I am enjoying acting and am open to interesting offers. I don t want to do every role that comes my way. "The role has to be a substantial one and must make me feel good. I don t want to accept roles just for the sake of money. Stating that the Hindi film industry is witnessing a boom these days, Bipasha says: Several heroes or heroines have appeared on the scene, but the top notch actors do just one or two films a year. Besides Bollywood, "I am open to the idea of doing European, American or Bengali movies. Recalling her modelling days, the dusky actor says: I won the Ford Supermodel of the World contest at a young age and became an international model overnight. "Besides sashaying down the ramp, I also did campaigns abroad for three years. When I got bored with modelling in New York and Paris, I decided to return home. Back in Mumbai, Bipasha got an offer from the Abbas-Mustan duo to play a negative role in Ajnabee starring Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Kareena Kapoor. I accepted the offer as I found it interesting because it was not a stereotypical college-girl role. Among other roles she has essayed, Bipasha donned the police uniform in Dhoom and Dhoom II . No wonder then that she looks up to senior police officer Kiran Bedi. Though I don t know Kiran Bedi personally, I know she is doing fantastic work in her field. However, I didn t do any research on her before playing a cop. Over the years Bipasha has learnt to take uncharitable comments in her stride. On the controversy surrounding the kiss with an international soccer player during the Seven Wonders of the World contest in Lisbon, Bipasha says: Critics wrote nasty things about me when I was representing my country at the contest. "But I was not upset because there are too many newspapers and channels and there is intense competition among them over who comes out first with the news. "Fifty per cent of these people (journalists) don t want to do such stories, but they need sensational stuff. One person whom Bipasha really admires is animal rights crusader Maneka Gandhi. Inspired I am actually inspired by the work she is doing for animals and the way she addresses issues concerning them. I think all women should admire her for rescuing and rehabilitating sick and needy animals. Through her organisation People for Animals, she runs shelters, ambulance services and undertakes sterilisation programmes for dogs. Bipasha is fond of animals, especially dogs and cats. At home in Mumbai, I have a three-year-old dog. In Kolkata, I had 16 cats and had given them all different names. Even though Bipasha loves animals, she admits that like a typical Bengali she relishes non-vegetarian food. But I don t eat non-vegetarian stuff at home as my younger sister has turned a vegetarian and has even stopped using leather bags. Children issues and global warming are also close to her heart. As an actor or celebrity it is necessary that we take up such issues, she says.
