Our hands are constantly on show, involved in virtually every move we make and everything we do. People’s eyes are so often drawn to our hands whether we are handing them something, pointing, touching them or waving. Even when we talk, we use our hands, and we, of course, use them for touch and tenderness.
So, understandably, it’s important to many of us that they look attractive. For as far back as we can look we have adorned our hands with jewellery and especially rings.
As early as Egyptian and Roman culture, rings were worn to make hands more beautiful and to celebrate marriage. Today rings are still worn to signify specific sentiments, friendship, engagement, marriage and motherhood. We wear rings made of precious metals in simple bands to marry, ones set with diamonds and other precious stones for engagements and eternity.
Pretty silver and gems simply to look lovely. There is such a choice, white gold , yellow and red, silver, copper and for those of us with a little more money the exquisite platinum.
Men and women have both decorated their hands with rings that show love, commitment, or mirror their character. Often rings are given to them as a gift and more and more men are wearing wedding rings today and some even wear an engagement ring. More often men wear signet rings with or without their initials.
Rings are a good way to change an outfit by bringing in a new colour or texture or by changing the mood with a serious jewel or more colourful modern design and will often give quite an impact. Thus ensuring their pride of place in our jewellery boxes.
People through the ages have used rings to adorn their hands. They are ageless jewels.
