I'm guessing the main difference between the players who tell their prospective employers they have smoked pot and the players who tell their prospective employers they haven't smoked pot is honesty.
Of course, the NFL tests for marijuana, and players who test positive multiple times can be suspended or even banned (just ask Ricky Williams). So NFL teams have every reason to be cautious about players who admit using drugs. They just shouldn't allow that caution to let them pass up on a potentially great player.
The Pro Football Weekly report says, "Such admissions are viewed indifferently by many teams' decision-makers who do not consider marijuana experimentation to be abnormal." That sounds like the right approach to me.
Marijuana use leads to laziness. Once that prospect uses and gets hooked on it, he may have to use steroids to keep up with keeping and building up muscle. Pot is just a stepping stone drug and in this case it'll lead to steroids. As far as the person who says it's none of the team's business, they're investing millions of dollars. Their pinning their franchise hopes. Some of them only get one pick. I think they have a right to know. They can hurt and set back a franchise in the standings for years to come. As far as this pot use not hurting anyone, you're absolutely wrong. Cities, teams, fans are depending on building a winner on just one pick. Imagine is Michael Jordan had been lazy and have not had a strong workout ethic. Oh I remember the Portland Trail Blazers picking someone before Michael Jordan. That player turned out to be very lazy. The Trail Blazers probably would have had six championships by now if they would have picked Jordan.

Hey, if the Carolina Panthers can have team sponsored steroids and professional steroid doctors, without anyone knmowing about it till later, then it won't be long before some team has its own marijuana field beside the practice field, if it means bringing in the best college draftee @ 20 mil per year. A contract can have street value (per joint) calcualted into the $20 mil and it will only cost the team a small fraction of that. Happy players are winning players ... aren't they?

Don't pick johnson cause he is a lazy pothead. He is only 6'5" 225 and runs a 4.35 40. He has hands like glue and runs super sharp routs and never drops the ball. If thats what pot does for him gimme some. I see him as a Marvin Harrison type who can be awesome for 12-15 yrs. I'd love to see my Browns get him at #3. I'd hate to be a team trying to defend him, Brayland and K2, w/ Lewis running wild.

Does anyone who has actually smoked pot think it's a big deal? I don't. The biggest danger of pot usage is that it's illegal. It's not worth going to jail for. Jail will mess a person up more than a whole Glad bag of Dope. These players tried it a few times. The fact that they're being considiered for the draft tells us that it's not a factor. I know many stoners - they're not NFL material - real pot abusers have no motivation, and therefore wouldn't be on a college football team. This is way overblown.

HAVING A BROKEN LEG. sam bowie the player portland took before micheal jordan broke his leg in college before he was drafted by the nba. any one that would draft a healthy sam bowie before jordan must have their head stuck in a 5 gallon bucket of model airplane glue. sam bowie is just one of many over rated and over hyped players from the university of kentucky. if you don't know what i'm saying just check out jack givens and dan issle. the nfl can advertise alcohol to their fans and that is ok. they can train a player to run head first into another 300 lbs., player and that is ok. their are many things in life that are bad for you and pot is one of them. drunkeness and head injuries are bad for you too.

Drugs are an illegal narcotic.... and having never taken drugs, I can say they have nothing to offer. I've never taken drugs and look at me, im perfectly fine. Now get off my property before I hurt you" - SP
Better them admit to smoking and still signing that fat contract than lying about it, and the owners finding out later and holding it against them. 1 in 3 people have tried weed so its not that surprising that these guys have smoked. Who cares.... football is entertainment. These guys will sell so many tickets that the owners wont care as long as they dont get caught.
