Are you tired all the time? If your answer is an emphatic "YES," you might have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), more than a million Americans suffer from this debilitating disease and up to 80% are unaware they have it. Are you one of them?
Or perhaps you or someone you care about has already been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). If so, in my opinion, the best place to start overcoming the problem is by using highly effective alternative therapies.
But just because you're frequently tired doesn't necessarily mean you've got CFS. According to Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the CDC, profound exhaustion, problems concentrating and difficulties sleeping distinguish Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. CSF sufferers might also have flu-like symptoms, such as pain in the joints and muscles, headaches, a sore throat or tender lymph nodes.
Dr. Gerberding also noted that the symptoms of CFS are similar to other diseases that cause fatigue. These include Fibromyalgia, chronic mononucleosis, neurasthenia, encephalomyelitis and multiple chemical sensitivities. Of course poor nutrition is, by far, the main reason for tiredness, but other health issues that can contribute to fatigue are faulty digestion, food allergies, obesity, tension, depression, problems sleeping, alcohol, drug use and smoking.
The physical and mental weariness caused by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can be so severe it prevents people from participating fully in normal, everyday activities and enjoying their lives. Even getting plenty of rest often doesn’t seem to make much difference. But, with basic lifestyle changes and a diet rich in whole food nutrients, almost anyone can help prevent or even reverse the symptoms of CFS.
To begin with, you can switch to a more wholesome diet that includes lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. For protein, focus mainly on cold water fish high in omega-3 oils and lean, free ranging poultry. Drink lots of pure, clean water and avoid processed and salty foods and sweets. As much as possible, eliminate sugar, alcohol, coffee, tea, sodas and fruit drinks (which are mostly sugar) And, if you're a smoker, quit.
Begin finding ways you can decreasing the stress in your life and make sure you get plenty of good quality rest. It's also important to start a regular exercise program. In the beginning, this might seem impossible. But exercise is a great stress reliever and an essential part of your alternate therapy. So set a moderate goal for yourself, take it slow and easy and move gradually toward your objective with patient persistence.
Even when you do your best, you can't get everything you need from the food you eat. So, for optimum dietary results, the CDC suggests including supplementation. My recommendation is natural, whole food nutritional supplements that include the essential oils vital to a healthy body.
I've consistently seen this alternative therapy program work wonders for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia or just plain old tiredness. Those who actually follow all the guidelines tend to get amazing results. They feel better than ever, start enjoying their life once again and say good-bye to chronic fatigue!
