BLIGE, 50 CENT, PERRY, WYCLEF IN STEROID PROBE: New report says singers and rappers among thousands who have either used or received illegal substance.
*Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Wyclef Jean, Timbaland and Tyler Perry have been named in a steroid trafficking investigation that has exposed just how far its use has traveled beyond the world of sports.
Citing confidential sources, the Albany Times Union claims the artists are among tens of thousands of people found to have either used or received prescribed shipments of steroids and injectable human growth hormone (HGH) in recent years.
Authorities, however, say there is not enough evidence to accuse any of the singers, rappers and other customers of breaking any laws. Instead, the probe is an effort to shut down the flow of drugs by doctors, pharmacists and anti-aging clinics that made the drugs accessible to their famous clients.
The Times Union says it gained access to records from several unnamed cooperating witnesses on Long Island, New York, that reportedly indicate that human growth hormone or steroids were shipped to Blige and the others
Manhattan fitness club and through the Long Island office of chiropractor Michael Diamond.
Diamond, who has not been identified as a target in the case or accused of breaking any laws, helps run an anti-aging program at Clay Gym in Manhattan.
The New York Daily News contacted Blige's camp for comment and was told by her rep that the allegations are false.
"Mary J. Blige has never taken any performance-enhancing illegal steroids," spokeswoman Karynne Tencer told the Daily News.
VIVICA A. FOX CLAIMS THERE IS NO SEX TAPE: Actress says if one existed, she'd be trying to profit from it herself.
*Film and TV star Vivica A. Fox is denying that she is the woman featured in a sex tape that has been circulating on the Internet.
"Vivica does not have a sex tape. If I did, I would be making my own money off of it," the actress told People magazine Saturday night at the taping of the inaugural BET Honors in Washington, D.C.
The video in question shows a man receiving oral sex from a woman he claims is Fox. The man, as the story goes, filmed the act and then distributed the footage to his friends, which eventually got back to Fox. The actress allegedly contacted a friend in the police department for advice on how to handle the situation.
Atlanta radio personality Porsche Foxx reportedly confirmed the story, calling Fox her friend and expressing a labored decision on whether to go public with the story.
The "Kill Bill" star didn't comment directly on the latter part of the rumor, but reaffirmed to People: "As a 43-year-old woman, I would never allow a man to put me in that position. If you see me having a love scene, it's going to be choreographed in a movie, and be fabulous."
As for her no contest plea to DUI charges last December, Fox says she's learned a valuable lesson: "Hire a driver."
"I gave Nicole Richie that advice
It's a lesson I definitely learned. No one is above the law."
WESLEY SNIPES PRAYS BEFORE TAX FRAUD TRIAL: Actor attends service at nearby church before heading to Ocala courthouse.
*Wesley Snipes made sure he was prayed up before attending the first day of his tax fraud trial Monday in Ocala, Florida.
The actor, charged with multiple counts of tax fraud, took part in a prayer session organized by 22 pastors at a nearby church, reports the Associated Press. Afterward, the "Blade" star headed to the U.S. District Court house to begin jury selection in his trial.
Snipes, 45, is charged with six counts of failing to file tax returns, two counts of fraudulently claiming tax refunds and one count of conspiracy to defraud the government. He faces 16 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
Snipes' defense team said it expected the trial to last around a month. His lawyers read out a list of potential celebrity witnesses who might testify on his behalf, including retired NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw, movie director Spike Lee and actress Goldie Hawn.
SERENA WILLIAMS REVEALS BROKEN HEART: She also wins her opening match at Australian Open.
*Defending Australian Open champ Serena Williams took the first step in retaining her title Monday with a win over unseeded Australian Jarmila Gajdosova 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the second round.
The win in Melbourne is even more impressive considering the personal heartbreak she claims to be nursing in the wake of a recent painful breakup.
The 26-year-old posted a message on her blog stating she put her trust and faith in a boyfriend, only to get dumped in return.
"Trust is something you vowed you would never do again, but slowly your heart comes out of its steel enclosure," she wrote in the entry posted on her Web site www.serenawilliams.com
Monday. "You feel like you can trust him, you feel as if everything you went through was for a reason, and the reason was to meet him."
The seventh-ranked tennis star never reveals the name of her boyfriend in the 600-word account, but the last man she was dating was actor Jackie Long, who played the character Esquire in the film "ATL."
Williams reveals that as "weeks turn into months" her patience with getting him to perform one seemingly simple task has worn thin.
"No, not say the 'L' word, but what you have been most afraid of," she wrote. "What deep in your heart you have been afraid to confront. What you always suspected would happen one day sooner or later. HE STOPS CALLING.
You panic."
Williams details how she felt foolish and hurt at losing the chance to find a soulmate, concluding "eventually you know you will find the keys to your heart, but also in the back of your mind you think ... will it happen again?"
In another entry, Williams writes about the changes the break-up brought to her life.
"I decided to rid myself of relationships that could stop me from reaching the main goal which is being the best," she wrote. "I did not want anything to stand in my way of doing what I do best, which is playing tennis."
She said she found comfort in the book "Who Moved My Cheese?" by motivational author Spencer Johnson, who likens mice in a maze hunting for cheese to humans searching for happiness and success.
"Basically, it was talking about complacency and being afraid of change," Williams wrote. "I then realized that I was afraid to change, afraid to move on. I was afraid to find new cheese! I thought there was only one cheese out there but after reading that book I realized that there is all types of cheese out there."

LONGORIA, T.O. IN DALLAS QB DRAMA: Eva advises Jessica on girlfriend challenges; Owens cries while defending Romo after playoff upset.
*Eva Longoria has some words of advice for Jessica Simpson. Both ladies have mates who are professional athletes, and both have at one time or another been blamed for a bad performance by their famous sweetheart.
Simpson, who is dating Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, famously flaunted her presence at a home game several weeks ago as her boyfriend had one of the worst performances of his career. Fans and blogs were quick to blame the pop star for his on-the-field woes.
Longoria, who is married to San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker, tells People magazine that she can relate to Simpson's plight. Her advice for the singer?
"You have to weather that for a while, and once people get over it, they kind of get used to you," the "Desperate Housewives" star said.
Meanwhile, Terrell Owens has come to the defense of Romo's decision to vacation with Simpson and her family in Mexico during their first round playoff bye-week. But the manner in which he supported the quarterback became a Monday morning source of ridicule among die-hard Dallas haters.
Following the team's playoff loss Sunday night to the Giants, T.O. was asked to comment on Romo's romantic getaway with Simpson as his team prepared to face the wildcard Giants in the post-season.
The usually mouthy wide receiver got extremely emotional while defending his QB. As tears rolled down his cheek from behind dark shades, he told reporters: "This isn't about Tony. You guys can point the finger at him. You can talk about the vacations. And if you do that, it's wrong. That's my team mate. That's my quarterback. If you guys do that, it's not fair. We lost as a team. He gives it his all every day. He's the quarterback of this team and win or loss it's going to fall on his shoulders. But let it fall on the team's shoulders."

BET HONORS HELD AMIDST PROTESTS OUTSIDE: Stevie, Alicia, Gladys among stars at inaugural event as coalition pickets against negative images.
*Black Entertainment Television threw its inaugural BET Honors ceremony Saturday night in Washington, but it wasn't without controversy.
Inside the Warner Theatre, honorees Alicia Keys, (entertainment); Tyra Banks (media); Cornel West (education); Rep. Maxine Waters of California (public service); Richard D. Parsons, former chief executive of Time Warner (corporate citizen); and Act 1 employment services Janice Bryant Howroyd (entrepreneur) were each saluted with an introduction, video and musical tribute.
"For me, I'm just a girl still from Harlem, and here I am," Keys said during her acceptance speech. "It's a tremendous feeling to do what you love and for people to love what you do.
People are honoring me for doing what my heart tells me to do, (and that is) so fulfilling."
Meanwhile, protesters behind police barricades across 14th Street held picket signs that read "I Am Not a Pimp" and "I Am Not a Gangster" to protest the negative images portrayed in videos and programming that are broadcast on BET.
Rev. Delman L. Coates of the anti-BET group Enough is Enough led a crowd of about 200 protesters, saying the show was nothing more than a glitzy distraction from the network's perpetuation of negative stereotypes.
Among the musical highlights Saturday night was Gladys Knight getting emotional during her performance of "Keep On Keeping On, Wyclef Jean lending a hand to "She's a Bad Mama Jama," Brian McKnight belting "One," and Stevie Wonder sending everyone to their feet with "As," dedicated to Keys. Some kind of technical difficulty forced Wonder to perform the song twice.
Other celebs in the building included Blair Underwood, Vivica A. Fox, John Legend, Jill Scott and Kerry Washington. Michael Jackson was a scheduled guest, but he pulled out of the event.
The ceremony will premiere Feb. 22 on BET.

Talbert will write, direct and produce the project for Fox Searchlight, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Based on his 2005 novel, "Baggage Claim" tells the story of a single flight attendant who jets around the country in search of a husband.
Thirtysomething Montana Moore, tired of the single life, embarks on a 30-day, 30,000-mile barnstorm across America to find an appropriate mate. Along the way she encounters several interested prospects, including a preacher, a politician and a tycoon.
Casting is under way for the pre-writer's strike project, which Searchlight hopes to shoot ahead of a potential actors strike in the summer, according to the trade.
OBAMA HAS '99 PROBLEMS' AND BOB JOHNSON IS ONE: Sen. slammed by BET founder; plus Hillary explains MLK gaffe; was she target of Jay-Z song at Iowa rally?
*As the race to become America's next president trudges on, the top two Democratic campaigns are beginning to look more like soap operas than a chance to tell voters where they stand on today's top issues.
Black Entertainment Television founder and staunch Hillary Clinton supporter Robert L. Johnson took a nasty swipe at her presidential rival Barack Obama over the weekend. Plus folks are questioning Obama's choice of a Jay-Z song during an Iowa party, and Clinton continues to defend her recent comments that appeared to diminish the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
While trying to make a point about presidential leadership and Obama
Clinton has since said she was misinterpreted. In an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday morning, she again explained the comments were in response to a speech Obama made comparing himself to both President Kennedy and to King, and accused the Obama campaign of "deliberately distorting" the words of she and her husband on civil rights.
"Dr. King had been on the front lines. He had been leading a movement," Clinton told host Tim Russert. "But Dr. King understood, which is why he made it very clear, that there has to be a coming to terms of our country politically in order to make the changes that would last for generations beyond the iconic, extraordinary speeches that he gave. That's why he campaigned for Lyndon Johnson in 1964. That's why he was there when those great pieces of legislation were passed.
"Does he deserve the lion's share of the credit for moving our country and moving our political process? Yes, he does. But he also had partners who were in the political system."
Asked whether he had taken offense at Sen. Clinton's remarks, the Illinois Democrat said he had not been the one to raise the subject.
"Senator Clinton made an unfortunate remark, an ill-advised remark, about King and Lyndon Johnson. I didn't make the statement," Obama said in a conference call with reporters. "I haven't remarked on it. And she, I think, offended some folks who felt that somehow diminished King's role in bringing about the Civil Rights Act. She is free to explain that. But the notion that somehow this is our doing is ludicrous."
At a South Carolina rally for Sen. Clinton at Columbia College, Bob Johnson attempted to clarify Sen. Clinton's comments, saying she did not mean to take any credit away from the civil rights icon.
Dr. King had led a
During her "Meet the Press" appearance, Clinton defended her husband's words, saying his "fairytale" remark referred only to Obama's Iraq war position and not his standing as a black candidate.
In still more drama, there is now talk that the choice of Obama's camp to play Jay-Z's song "99 Problems" during a victory party in Iowa was a strategic stab at Sen. Clinton. Jay-Z boasts in the hook, "I got 99 problems but a b*tch ain't one."
"We didn't know he used that," a Clinton spokesperson told the New York Post's Page Six.
Obama has said in previous interviews that he listens to rap music from time to time.
"I tell you what, I can tell you the kinds of stuff I love dancing to . . . I'm sort of the generation of Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind and Fire," he told CNN on the campaign trail. "But I'm sort of hip to the younger stuff. You know, like Beyonc 's 'Crazy in Love.' That's a good song to dance to. Eminem . . . although he curses sometimes."
NEW BOOK CLAIMS REGGIE BUSH TOOK CASH AT SC: San Diego sports marketer interviewed extensively for 'Tarnished Heisman.'
*In a new book titled "Tarnished Heisman," San Diego Sports marketer Lloyd Lake claims he lined the pockets of former Southern California running back Reggie Bush with nearly $300,000 in cash while he was still in college, reports the Associated Press.
Based mostly on interviews provided by Lake, who attempted to sign Bush as a client for the marketing company he tried to launch, the book from authors Don Yaeger and Jim Henry also claims the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner was provided with hotel stays, cash for shopping sprees and money to buy and customize a car.
Yaeger and Henry acknowledge that Lake "has been compensated in return for his full cooperation," according to a story posted on the Los Angeles Times' Web site Thursday. Lake's family members also were quoted extensively.
The book suggests that USC coaches may have known about some of the arrangements, but it does not provide evidence that any school official was aware of alleged improper gifts.
The NCAA and Pac-10 are currently investigating whether Bush and his parents took improper benefits during 2004 and 2005, when Bush was still playing college football. If the NCAA determines that USC violated rules, the football program could have to forfeit victories from those seasons
If Bush is found retroactively ineligible, he could lose his Heisman.

Dear Advice Chick,
*I met a really nice guy and we hit it off well. He was very handsome, respectful, and fun to be around. Things were going well until we decided to take it to the physical level. He was a short man but really aggressive, which is a turn on for me. The way he was bumping and grinding up against me, I just knew my a$$ was in trouble. When the clothes finally came off, he came up real short. It was so tiny I couldn't believe it. Now I'm not a size fanatic by any means but c'mon...even Subway offers you at least 6 inches or the foot-long!
Anyway, it took him forever to get it up. He kept fumbling around trying to get it in, which became even more problematic because it kept going soft. After several failed positions changes and more flat-liners, he finally gave up. He apologized over and over again and said he was really wanted us to have a good time but he was tired from being up for nearly two day with very little sleep. I didn't want to embarrass him anymore than he already was so I just said not to worry about it. He asked if I would ever talk to him again. I said yes I would, but at the same time I feel like maybe it was me that caused his boat to flounder. Should this be my problem or his?
Advice Chick replies,

Erectile Dysfunction:
The inability of a man to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for his sexual needs or the needs of his partner. Most men experience this at some point in their lives, usually by age 40, and are not psychologically affected by it. Some men, however, experience chronic, complete erectile dysfunction (impotence), and others, partial or brief erections. Frequent erectile dysfunction can cause emotional and relationship problems, and often leads to diminished self-esteem. Erectile dysfunction has many causes, most of which are treatable, and is not an inevitable consequence of aging.

Maintain that physique, maintain that grueling tour schedule, maintain that workout regimen.
Steroids/HGH help men at the minimum to maintain. It can lead to bulk, but steroids/HGH are not to be equated solely with hyper-muscularity.
Similarly, in women, steroids/HGH allow women to bounce back quicker after childbirth and in both sexes also allow for longer workouts, increased stamina and less soreness. A woman wishing to tone up in various locations could benefit quicker and more thoroughly from the addition of steroids/HGH into her regimen.
Imagine working out more, with less lactic acid (soreness) afterwards. Working out as we all know could be cardio (aerobic) weights (anaerobic) or both. The use of steroids/HGH does not necessarily equate to muscle mass. The variables of dosage, location and frequency all are at play.

THE BRIDGE: American Politics, Part 2
By Darryl James
*Last week, in American Politics, Part 1, I stated that while too many people think it is enough to repeat the myriad voting slogans designed to motivate the masses, I believe that real discussion on the voting process, the right to vote and the effectiveness of voting has to occur.
For example, those who speak of
Electoral College and how it can mitigate the popular vote. But in a climate of hanging, swinging and missing chads, anything could happen.
The Electoral College was designed as a buffer between the people and the actual selection of the president, because the racist, sexist and classist founding fathers did not trust the average citizen. It was also designed to give smaller states more power.
In all but two states, the winner of the most votes from the people takes all of the Electoral votes for that state. However, in Maine and Nebraska, Electoral votes go to the winner in each of those states
Confusing, huh?
Until we provide more clarity on the voting process as well as the candidates, we will continue to provide little inspiration for the masses to vote.
Our ancestors died so that we would have the right to vote, but after the horrible events in Florida in 2000, many people just may exercise the right to not vote. Unless, of course, they hear more than the usual slogans and platitudes. We have to remember that since the Big
On the Democratic side, every Black Democrat assumes that all Blacks should join this party, failing to discuss difficulties that we should have with the party. For example, does anyone want to talk about how the Democrats have a habit of taking Blacks for granted, knowing that our vote can almost always be counted on? And if the first serious Black contender is derided by other Blacks for not being
I agree that we need not be so loyal to one party, but if the racism in the Republican party can not be dampened and the Blacks who join the party are mostly boot licking lackeys, then there is very little to inspire more of us to join. The racist conservatives who populate the Republican Party are all about big business and rich, white men.
In addition, there can be no pure alignment based on skin color in any party.
Aside from the clowning, self-serving antics of the Soul Curl Brothers (Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson), Blacks should have had difficulties with the likes of Mayor Wilson Goode in Philadelphia (who burned poor folks out of public housing) and Mayor Tom Bradley (who allowed LA Police Chief Darryl Gates to run rampant) who were both Black.
The bottom line is that politics can be confusing and intimidating.
So, what then, can help to turn out the vote? To begin with, inspiring candidates, such as Barack Obama, who has inspired both Blacks and whites across the nation with his victory in Iowa and concession speech in New Hampshire
Secondly, a real voter education program, to explain the entire voting process as well as the impact of voting would do wonders for boosting voter registration.
The truth about both parties may also help.
For example, it would be nice if Republicans admitted that Georgie is moderately mentally retarded and a warmonger. They would garner more respect if they admitted that the most conservative of the party care very little about people of color, or people without money.
Even though Georgie is
Black president. Yet, even if Republicans lie about how dangerous the idiot in the White House is, they can not lie about his view of the world, particularly when it comes to people of color.
The problem is that during elections, voting is made into an emotional issue, which works temporarily, but fails to sustain after major disappointments. For far too many, the goal is to get people to vote for a specific candidate, or a specific issue, as opposed to providing real information so that the people can make informed decisions. If the goal were to make more people more politically astute, the voter turnout would grow and could be sustained.
Let us remember how the retarded son of a Bush first got into office: A great number of voters of color in Florida were disenfranchised and many of their elected officials failed to stand up for them. Eventually, Democrat Al Gore gave up the fight. Both parties failed the people. Many Blacks and other American citizens on the fringe of enfranchisement watched and became grossly disillusioned about the voting process.
I don
