Kid fitness is especially important today with the incidents of obesity in children on the rise. This article provides some tips for parents to keep their children active and have a healthy weight. Kid fitness should not just be the domain of the school physical education curriculum. Parents have a responsibility in helping to ensure that their children are fit and do get the exercise they need for their growing bodies. The advances in technology with computer games have led to a decrease in children playing outdoors. Children no longer do a lot of walking and running in order for them to be fit. Being fit at an early age helps children to grow up to be fit adults.

There are many gyms that have kids fitness programs. When you go to the gym, why not make it a family affair and enroll your children. They exercise under the guidance of an instructor, while you get your workout at the same time. This not only helps to improve your children's health, it also eliminates the need for a sitter when you go to the gym. Having family outings has also changed. A family outing now means a trip to the mall or the movies. Taking a brisk walk together allows you to spend time with your children and get a healthy dose of fresh air while exercising your muscles.

Many homes have a variety of fitness equipment. You set a time for your children to do homework, so why not set a time when they also use the equipment to do exercises. Most exercise equipment accommodates a wide range of sizes so there will not be a problem for children to ride the stationary bicycle or use the treadmill. Lifting weights may be dangerous to do at home, but they can use small wrist and ankle weights. You do not have to set resistance levels either just making sure they are exercising is the important thing to do.
