Halloween is a time for children and adults to go out and have a great time celebrating. Trick or treating is a tradition that is fun and exciting for all ages. There are always parties to go to and haunted mansions to visit. No doubt about it, Halloween is a very exciting time. However, in the midst of all the excitement there is one thing that should never be forgotten. That one thing is Halloween safety. No one wants to remember Halloween as the night someone got injured or hurt in any way. Therefore, be sure and follow all the safety rules.

If you do go door to door trick or treating, then there are a few safety rules that should be followed. Only visit homes that you know; you should never visit the homes of strangers. Always stay in well lighted areas so you can see everything that is surrounding you. Wear something that reflects headlights if you are out after dark. This is to alert anyone driving a vehicle that you are nearby. Children should let their parents check all of their candy and treats before eating anything. It is a good idea to travel in groups and children should always have adult supervision when out trick or treating.

Make sure you only take candy from people or establishments that you trust. Don't eat anything that is not sealed. If the seal is broken the food could be contaminated. Due to the dangers that apples and other fruits have held in the past, these should only be accepted from people you know. If your community hospital offers their services, then you can take your treats there to have them inspected for safety.

Adults should be also careful if going out to celebrate on Halloween night. You should never go out alone. If you go to a party that serves alcohol make sure if you drink, you have a safe way home. Don't wear a costume that obstructs your view when driving as this could cause you to have an accident or block your view of children out trick or treating.
