Omega 3 is a group of essential fatty acids that are known to prevent or alleviate a large number of health conditions. In some cases, conditions have reversed with the consumption of Omega 3’s. Essential fatty acids are so called because they are needed for the maintenance of good health but the body does not make its own; it must come from our diets or supplements.
The Omega 3’s include DHA docohexaenoic acid, EPA eicosapentoic acid, and ALA alpha- linolenic acid. The sources of Omega 3 have come from fish oil from plant sources.
Eggs as well as other foods now come with Omega 3’s in them. Eggs with Omega 3 have much higher levels up to 350 mgs, while the typical egg, have much less. The average dose of Omega 3 for women is 1100 mgs and for men 1500 mgs.
Omega 3 eggs are produced by incorporating them into the feed for the chickens. Flax is used for these chickens. The Omega 3 eggs are more expensive than typical eggs are because of the higher cost of Flax and other Omega 3 supplements that might be added to the chicken feed.
Incorporating Omega 3’s into foods commonly eaten is becoming increasingly available due to increased interest in good health. They may be available in limited areas depending on where Omega 3 chicken farms are. Check with your favorite food store to see if they have them available for their customers.
While Omega 3’s do provide many positive effects on health conditions there are also concerns about some of the negative aspects of Omega 3 supplementation. Omega 3’s do not allow blood platelets to become sticky and clump together and blocking the arteries.
This thinning of the blood could be a serious problem if you are injured or having surgery.
Always check with your doctor before adding or deleting something from your dietary regimen such as vitamins or supplements. If you take medication for thinning out the blood you have a risk of excessive bleeding. It is a good idea to ask your doctor or pharmacist about whether there will be any possibility of side effects and negative interactions with other medication or vitamins.
Another concern in this matter is the effects of Omega 3 supplements on long term health.
Unfortunately to date there are no known long term studies done. Implementing such a study could only help support the current belief in the positive health benefits of Omega 3 consumption.
Omega 3 eggs have high levels of DHA which is important to overall brain health, retinal health and treatment of particular health conditions. These eggs should be added to your diet along with other Omega 3 foods since the American diet has been proven to be extremely lacking in Omega 3. Finally, we have eggs that may actually be good for us!
