Surgery has more than one answer for treating Peyronie's disease, but if you are unwilling to undergo surgery, then you should consider taking another course of action, such as using a traction device.
Here we will look at two common surgical procedures used to remove the plaque and therefore reduce the bending effect that comes about.
Surgical Treatment #1: Tissue Grafts
Tissue Grafts are by far the most attempt at curing Peyronie's effects. It basically involves the surgical removal of the plaque build up that causes the penis to bend a certain way.
The part of the penis where the plaque develops is replaced with a tissue graft ideally from another part of the patients own body. In in some cases a synthetical substance is used, and in rare cases tissue from a foreign human or animal is used.
As you can probably imagine, these tissue grafts can cause future complications and scarring from the body's rejection of the tissue and is best done when an available graft can be secured surgically from the patient's own body.
The tissue graft method is also prone to contraction after surgery, which causes shortening of the penis and also scarring.
Surgical Treatment #2: Penile Implants
The last resort for patients suffering from Peyronie's disease is penile implants. This method is only recommended for severe forms of the condition, or severe bending. Penile implants were commonly used years ago when men could not obtain an erection due to Peyronie's disease.
As there are now medications for erectile dysfunction, penile implants are only used when such drugs do not help and when other less invasive surgery has been tried.
A penile implant is a plastic cylinder placed inside the main blood filling chamber of the penis, and is intended to straighten the penis during erection. The implant causes the penis to bend away from the plaque to increase the correction of curvature.
When You Should Consider Surgery
While these and other surgical procedures have given patients successful results in the past, they should be put off until all other options have been proven ineffective. Even a slight mistake can ruin an operation with surgery, there are no second chances.
Natural Peyronie's Treatments
Another good option for dealing with Peyronie's condition is using a traction device. Men who have participated in the clinical studies done on the traction device have been able to reduce their penile curvature by up to 70% and maintain or increase the length of their penis by up to 1.6 inches. The traction device is an alternative treatment that requires regular use for a period of 6 months or until desired results are seen.
