Beautiful perfectly white smile is a dream for many. What
many People do not know is the options they have to achieve
their dream. And I am going to tell you here about the
options of treatment of one problem. This problem might
not be a problem to some, while it is a big problem to
others.
This problem is what is called gummy smile. Gummy smile

can do conventional gingivectomy which is the cutting of
the gum with the scalpel. The main advantage of this option
is that you will have an immediate result.
2- Le fort I osteotomy (orthognathic surgery): The goal
of this Surgery is to decrease the height of your upper jaw.
The Surgeon is going to remove few millimeters of your upper
jaw & then He is going to immobilize the bone with mini-plates.
You need to do an orthodontic treatment (braces) along with
this surgery. So, You are going to be treated by tow
specialists, a surgeon & an orthodontist.This option gives
great result if you show large amount of Gum. This operation
has the most successful & stable results of all the
orthognathic surgeries. Nevertheless, it has the usual
hazards & complication of any major operation.
3-Orthodontic treatment: In this option you are going to
depend only on the orthodontic treatment (braces).What is
the orthodontist is going to do is intrusion of your anterior
teeth. He is going to literally drive your teeth upwards,
if you ask me, so what about the gum & bone around these teeth?
I am going to tell you that the bone is going to undergo resorption
& gum is going to follow the bone. So, what is going to happen is
normal remodeling to the structures around the teeth.
There is also one point about this option; he is not going to
use braces alone. Let me explain this, he needs a lot of force
to intrude your teeth .Also he needs a source of resistance
to these forces, in order to prevent unwanted tooth movements.
So, the bottom line here is that he is going to use what is called
micro-screw implants to do that He is going to put these tiny
screws (2 screws) above the anterior upper teeth. This option will
take longer than the earlier two options. Of course the main
advantage of this option is that you are going to avoid the
complication of the major operation. The most horrible complication
with this option is to screw to get out. All you have to do is to
pick it up & return to your doctor to put it back. And by the way,
I have chosen this option.
Now, you have a general idea about the possibilities & options
for your treatment. So, what is then? You need to take an action.
