Let me give you a scenario: you have just returned from a long day at work. You are frustrated and exhausted, but you are so troubled by work, bills, and family problems that you are too anxious to sleep. So you stay up and worry anxiously. Finally, you decide to light an aromatherphy candle. Within minutes, you feel that calming sensation pass over your body...
Since most good memories are triggered by scent, using these scents when under stress can help relieve some of the affects including anxiety, headaches, and tension in the back and shoulders. There are hundreds of scents to choose from. You do not have to select cinnamon or peach or any traditional aromatheraphy scent. People have different scents that make them feel better. Aromatherapy is a relaxation technique that is used by many cultures and is an inexpensive way for a person to feel better when going through a stressful situation.
One type of scent you may want to select to use in your aromatheraphy routine is something that reminds you of your childhood, your favorite people, or some fun activities. Additionally, you may want to consider using food if you feel you need comforting. These scents will enhance awareness and create a calming environment. Aromatherapy can also be used to enhance mental capabilities, clarity, and agility. It is important to only use one scent at a time as more than one can create a new scent that is not pleasant. It is a good idea to sit in a quiet room that is dim when practicing aromatherapy. This will allow the body to relax and the mind to wander.
Now, aromatheraphy does not just mean one thing. It does not just mean candles. Aromatheraphy can include things that are burned, used as fragrances, or even baked in food. All of these will do the trick, provided the scents are right. If a person is relaxed by the scent of apple pie, baking one is a great way to feel better instantly. If a person is traveling, they can purchase scented oils that smell like apple pie. Aromatherapy can be practiced anywhere because oils will travel well inside a suitcase. Many people use candles that will also travel well. Lighting a candle is the easiest way to allow calming scents to enter a room and also enter a person’s nose as well as their memories. This is one way that people can relax and reenergize after a stressful day.
