3 flee fire caused by lightning
A fire sparked by lightning at a house in western Travis County caused $580,000 in damage early Sunday, officials said.
The home in the 13000 block of Country Trails Lane in the Steiner Ranch area was struck by lightning about 6:45 a.m.
The two adults and baby in the home made it out safely, a spokesman for Lake Travis Fire Rescue said. It took firefighters 45 minutes to put out the fire.
SAN MARCOS
Man found dead inside car
Police are investigating the suspicious death of a man found inside a vehicle Saturday night.
A resident called police at 7:47 p.m. to report a vehicle with its headlights on in a field near the 1500 block of River Road, east of Interstate 35 near Texas 80.
Police did not reveal the cause of death and have not released the man's name, pending notification of his family.

Aid for medical bills offered
Parents struggling to pay for treatment, services or equipment not fully covered by insurance might be able to get a grant of up to $5,000 from UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation.
The nonprofit helps pay for such services as speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, prescriptions and equipment such as wheelchairs, orthotics and eyeglasses.
Children must be 16 or younger and families must meet economic guidelines and be covered by a commercial health insurance plan.
Online applications are available at www.uhccf.org; parents must go through a screening process.

The Texas Department of State Health Services begins its Ready or Not? Have A Plan educational tour today at the Capitol. The tour is designed to teach people how to create family emergency plans and learn about emergency preparedness in their communities.
The tour, which includes nine stops statewide through June 10, is part of a campaign to encourage Texans to prepare for disasters.
Today's event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Capitol's south steps and will include representatives from State Health Services, the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department, the Governor's Division of Emergency Management, the American Red Cross, 2-1-1 Texas, the Texas Association of Regional Councils and other public health and emergency response agencies.
