NMSU rethinks ‘Ag and Home Ec’
LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- New Mexico State University is looking at changing the names of its College of Agriculture and Home Economics.
A recent survey of nearly 1,500 people who have been involved with the college supported keeping the agriculture name but dumping the home economics name.
The college's dean, Lowell Catlett, said the decision is a work in progress.
He said several faculty members expressed an interest in a change because several divisions aren't adequately represented by the current name.
The college has a host of classes in such disciplines as tourism, the hospitality industry, and dietary and nutrition fields.
