Boost for Easyford

The Easyford Community Centre Society got a welcome boost from the government-run Wild Rose Foundation.
The society received a hefty boost in the form of a grant, totalling $18,427. The grant is a small portion of $1.2 million set aside for provincial grants across 34 non-profit organizations in the first quarter of 2007.
Lois Coward of the Easyford Community Centre Society said the money would go toward the purchase of new kitchen and fitness equipment for the centre. She said items on the list for the money include a new dishwasher and fountain pop machine, as well as some upgraded equipment for the centre's fitness room.
"We applied for it," said Coward. "We got their forms and applied for it, and we got it."
Coward added the money would continue to help the facility beyond just the upgrades and new equipment. She said that with newer equipment, the desire for catering and rental at the Easyford Community Centre would be increased, thus generating more revenue over time.
"More rentals means more revenue," she said.
Coward added that the funding from the government, coupled with grants from other sources, were more numerous than most thought.
"It's nice that organizations can access this kind of funding," she said.
The moneys are themselves part of $4.7 million that has been set aside for grants through the Wild Rose Foundation, the provincial government's "principal agency responsible for promoting and supporting Alberta's non-profit and voluntary sector," according to a government news release. A set amount of money is made available each quarter, and non-profit organizations based in health, social service, or community service, can apply to receive up to $50,000, once every three years.
The funds offered through the Wild Rose Foundation are raised through the Alberta Lottery Fund.
