19 Lehigh swimmers charged in drinking party bust

Bethlehem police charged 19 members of Lehigh University's swim team after busting a drinking party shortly before midnight.

Police on patrol heard loud music coming from 512 Taylor St. and, when police entered the home, they found kegs, bottles of liquor and a beer pong table.

One female student who was drinking at the party was taken to the hospital because of her high blood-alcohol content.

Mac S. Tichner, 19, of Brookville, N.Y., and Darren Podolak, 20, of Medford, N.J., both lived at the Taylor Street home. Both men are in Northampton County Prison on charges of corruption of minors, furnishing alcohol to minors, reckless endangerment and corruption of minors.

Both were arraigned last night before District Judge Michael Koury Jr. Tichner's bail was $15,000 and Podolak's bail was $10,000.

Police said 17 other people, including two 17-year-olds, were cited with underage drinking at the party.

One woman at the party, Nicole Lorigan, 20, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital-Fountain Hill after a breath test showed she was more than three times the legal limit to drive in Pennsylvania. Police said Lorigan's blood-alcohol content was more than 0.31 percent.

All those cited were members of the university swim team, said Bethlehem police Lt. Joseph Kimock.
