O'Connor is fabulous as Samantha, carrying off the role flawlessly and credibly. Her performance when Samantha gets her first mouse is outrageously funny and her interactions with her friend Oscar are both humorous and profound. She brings a richness and texture to the character that is impressive.

Arbogast is outstanding as well, perfectly capturing an owner's frustration with an often times inscrutable animal. His interchanges with Matilda are priceless, especially when she attempts to mediate between Samantha and him, reminding her that she is actually talking to a cat.

Jordan and Springer are excellent in multiple roles. Jordan's Matilda is wonderful, carrying off the belief that she can actually understand what a cat has to say and that it is possible to negotiate between a cat and a person. Her other role is that of Samantha's mother, warning her early on that she's going to the shelter and instructing her on how best to attract an owner.

Springer's Oscar is a perfect rendition of an alley cat, tempting his young female friend to join him in his exploits. His portrayal of the cat is right on target, capturing the characteristic motions of a feline while serenading Samantha with songs by Springsteen. He's also brilliant as Samantha's first mouse.

Director Samuel Buggeln has orchestrated an excellent version of Finkle's play, wisely avoiding costumes for the cats that would have actually been a distraction. The minimalist set places the focus on the actors themselves, allowing them to set the scene which they effectively do. And fans of the 1980s pop music scene have a treat in store with not only Springsteen, but also with music from entertainers like Madness, the Thompson Twins, Depeche Mode, ABC, and Olivia Newton John.
