Checklist supervisors
Supervisors of the Checklist will be at Hollis Town Hall on Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 7-7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, March 1, from 11-11:30 a.m., to register new votes, accept corrections and change of party.
To register, bring proof of domicile and either a birth certificate or passport as proof of citizenship.
Looking for recipes
Hollis Old Home Days is seeking recipes with history behind them. As part of the fundraising efforts for the 2008 Old Home Day celebration, organizers are assembling a cookbook of recipes from Hollis cooks (past and present), which will be available in late spring or early summer.

Completed packets will be accepted at the Hollis Primary School office after 10 a.m., each day.
The kindergarten is a half-day program. Parent/guardians may only register their own children. Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 30, 2008, in order to be eligible for kindergarten (6 years old by Sept. 30, 2008, for first grade). Parents who have a preference for either the morning or afternoon kindergarten session, should completed registration packet and return them as soon as possible.

Pancake breakfast
Hollis Pack 12 Cub Scouts will host their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Hollis Upper Elementary School (12 Drury Lane) from 8-11 a.m. (seniors are welcome at 7:30 a.m.).

Prices are $4 for adults and teens age 11-60, $3 for children 6-10, $2 for seniors (60-plus), and age 5 and under are free. Tickets will also be available at the door. Super Bowl Brunch
The Hollis-Brookline Rotary Club and Hollis-Brookline High School Interact Club will hold their 12th annual family-oriented Super Bowl brunch on Sunday, Feb. 3, from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The clubs have hosted the event at Alpine Grove, Hollis, each Super Bowl Sunday since 1997 to raise money for their many community and international service programs.
Through the sponsorship and participation of local businesses and individuals, last year the brunch raised more than $10,000 to support the charitable initiatives of the Hollis Brookline Rotary Club.
The event features clowns to entertain the children, a raffle of items donated by local businesses, and a grand prize of round-trip tickets for two to any destination on the Southwest Airline route.
Adult tickets will be available at the door for $17, and children
Garden club meets
The Colonial Garden Club of Hollis will host photographer and lecturer Cheryl Collins on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Lawrence Barn on Depot Road. The business meeting begins at 9 a.m., the presentation at 10
Collins will discuss the steps necessary to plan for a successful garden tour, and provide timelines, handouts and slides in her interactive program.
A freelance photographer for almost 30 years, Collins served the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts as state photographer for six years. Her work has been featured in the Vision of Beauty Calendar, National Gardener Magazine and the Federation website.
The Colonial Garden Club of Hollis meets every first Tuesday. New members are welcome. Call Abbie Law, membership chairperson, at 465-5594.
Land protection
The Conservation Commission and the UNH Cooperative Extension will co-sponsor a Land Conservation Workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m., in the Hollis Town Hall community room. Participants will learn about the options available to help landowners protect their land, while enjoying the benefits for themselves and their heirs.
The workshop will feature Phil Auger, an authority on planning tools for land protection with UNH Cooperative Extension, who has worked in the land conservation and forest management areas for more than 20 years. Members of the Hollis LPSC and the Conservation Commission will also speak about recent opportunities they have had to help conservation-minded Hollis landowners keep their land in agriculture and protected from future development. Handout materials will be available.

The Brookline Theater Club will present
Captain Samuel Douglass Academy, 24 Townsend Hill Road, in Brookline. Performances are Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m., for the Cast 1 production; and Saturday, Feb. 9, 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 10. 2 p.m., for the Cast 2 production. General admission is $5 at the door. Doors will open 30 minutes before each show.
DAR meeting
The Anna Keyes Powers chapter DAR will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m., at the Wheeler House in Hollis. Guest speaker will be Emily Kent, director of development at the Hillside School in Marlboro, Mass.
Hollis Woman
Club will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Faith Baptist Church on Wheeler Road in Hollis. Social hour is at 11 a.m., with a business meeting beginning at noon. Guest speaker Chick Wetherbee of Earthward will give a talk on outdoor survival strategies. Pressure to succeed
The Hollis Brookline PTSA S-Team will sponsor an educational workshop presented by Lynne LoPilato from Granite State Child and Family Counseling on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m., at the Hollis/Brookline High School. Lo Pilato will discuss how parents can help their child set goals within their reach, how to help them succeed and make good choices, and what happens when parents have pushed too hard or they push themselves
too hard. A snow date is Feb. 20.

Fishing derby
With at least a foot of ice on Lake Potanipo, Brookline Recreation Department has scheduled its annual Fishing Derby for Sunday, Feb. 17, from 6 a.m.
Lake Potanipo and Melendy Ponds. Registration starts at 6 a.m. at the snack shack at Lake Potanipo, or participants can pre-register by mail (see below). Adults are $10 and children under 12 are $5.
There will be a 50/50 cash raffle for kids, with prizes drawn every 15 minutes, and the snack shack will sell food and drinks. Brownie Troop 30 will sell delicious Girl Scout cookies for $3.50 a box, from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The recreation commission will also sell music CD

A snow sculpture contest will take place on the Max Cohen Memorial Grove beach beginning at 10 a.m.; judging by the recreation commission will be at 1 p.m. There will be a first, second and third prize awarded. If weather permits there will also be an area cleared off for ice skating.

Candidates forum
The Hollis Brookline Rotary Club will present a forum for candidates running for town office in Brookline and Hollis on Sunday, March 2, from 1-3 p.m., in the Samuel Douglass Academy in Brookline. The event will be moderated by Rotary Past President Basil Harris Jr. of Brookline. The proceedings will be televised live over the Brookline local access channel, local media are invited to attend.
For those offices that are contested, each candidate will be asked to provide a short statement to introduce themselves to the audience. Each candidate will respond to questions from the moderator and the audience. Viewers at home may provide questions by telephone. At the conclusion of the question-and-answer session, each candidate may offer a short summation.

Explore winter with your kids
Take time out with your young children to explore winter. Each session will include a story or poem to stir up curiosity, a winter craft, and a venture out for first-hand investigation. Geared for ages 2-5; younger siblings are welcome. Programs take place snow or shine. Class will be rescheduled if there is a snow day in Hollis/Brookline schools, or if the high temperature of the day is below 20 degrees. Bring snow gear each week. Parent-Child Winter Wonders sessions will be held Tuesdays, Feb. 5, 12.
Session I will run from 9-10 a.m. and Session II from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at $40 per session or $8 per class.

Making Tracks in the Snow? Learn what animal tracks look like in the snow, make prints of our own tracks and look for signs of animal life on a trail hike. Meet at Brown Lane Barn.
Winter hikes
Winter fitness walks starting at the Maple Hill Farm are held on Fridays through Feb. 22, from 9-11 a.m. The moderately fast-paced hike will aim to give participants two hours of activity with different scenery each week. When the snow is right, snowshoes can be used. Crampons are necessary for many hikes. Fee is $30 and includes the use of snowshoes when weather permits. Call Celeste at 465-7787.
Full moon night hikes /snowshoe walks will be held on Friday nights Feb. 22, March 21 and April 18, from 7
The April hike will be from 6:30-8:30. Hikes will start at Maple Hill Farm or Brown Lane Barn, depending on conditions. Fee: (Includes use of snowshoes, conditions permitting) individuals $10, families $25 The guided hikes will conclude with cocoa and cookies at the Maple Hill Farm.
American Legion meeting
The Kilduff-Wirtanen Legion Post 74 will hold its next meeting on Thursday, Feb. XX at 7 p.m. at the post home at 38 Main St., Brookline.
Game night
The Brookline PTO sponsors monthly family game nights in the Capt. Douglass Academy cafeteria on Friday nights from 6:30 to 8:30. After a long work/school week, these family game nights provide a great opportunity to enjoy some family time and wind down a bit.

The school districts of Milford, Mont Vernon, Brookline, and Amherst sponsor Free Child Check screenings for children ages 3 to 5 years of age. Parents who suspect there child may not be developing skills at age appropriate times, may wish to have him/her screened at the Child Check. Specialists screen children

Volunteers needed
Each Thursday from September to mid-June, the Hollis Seniors enjoy a luncheon at the new community center, the Lawrence Barn, brought in by Meals on Wheels. Volunteers from the community are needed to help set up, serve, and clean up at these weekly gatherings (10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). It

Museum passes
The library is offering patrons two free passes to the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, in the old 1937 passenger terminal at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. This museum is open Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., has exhibits tracing the history of manned flight from its earliest days to the present. Each pass is good for four free admissions to the museum and a 10 percent discount in the museum shop. Passes may be checked out for one day..

Meals on Wheels needs volunteer drivers throughout Manchester, Nashua, and Milford. A team of two or more can share a delivery route making the time commitment twice a month or less; training is provided.
