More volunteers for Visayans visit Tanauan

Tacloban City (27 April) -- After welcoming more than ten in the past few months, the municipality of Tanauan will once again play host to three volunteers for the Visayans who will do volunteer work in the municipality from May 05 to May 27, 2008.

Mr. Aldous B. Moro, Volunteers for the Visayans, Inc. Director informed that the young volunteers are willing to help out with the programs and activities in the Tanauan Municipal Health Office.

Tanauan Mayor Roque Tiu has always welcomed help from volunteers and so he agreed to welcome on May 5, the three Canadian volunteers, Liviu Ralea, 21 years old; Valerie Chen, 19 years old and Melody Wolfe, 22 years old.

Melody Wolfe is currently completing Honors Specialization in Psychology at the University of Ontario in London, Ontario Canada. She is also currently a research assistant at the Centre for Family Medicine in London, Ontario, Canada; and at the same time Starbucks assistant manager in Vaughan, Ontario.

Her volunteer experience includes that as a tutor to elementary school children with math and English work; fundraiser; talent show organizer/director; food bank staff; peer helper adviser; teen-line councilor; and student helper providing companionship and entertainment to children with autism.

Valerie Chen obtained a high school diploma and the International Baccalaureate Diploma at Glenforest Secondary School. Her work experience is that of being a piano teacher at the Keynotes School of Music. Her volunteer work includes being a Special Events Volunteer at World Vision; Fundraising Committee Member at Children's Wish Foundation; Camp Leader at Terrific Tots Summer Camp; and swimming instructor assistant at Erin Meadows Community Centre Pool.

Ms. Chen is a young volunteer who excels in music and she can do a lot for the young people of Tanauan.

The third volunteer is Liviu Ralea who is working for Honours Bachelor of Medical Science Degree, graduating in 2009 at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. He has also done volunteer works at the Faculty of Science Sophomore helping first year students integrate into academics and social university life.

Volunteer for the Visayans is a non-profit, established Non-Government Organization, that focuses on community development and international education. The international volunteers immerse themselves in a culture foreign to their own while educating the local community about the western world.
