Zimmerman homers hits RBI double to lead Nats past Braves

WASHINGTON Slumping Ryan Zimmerman spent some time working with Barry Larkin before the game, and then had a season-high three hits, including a homer and tiebreaking two-run double, to lead the Washington Nationals past the Atlanta Braves 6-3 on Tuesday night.

In the ninth, though, trouble: Chad Cordero hoping to earn back his job as Washington's closer after a stint on the disabled list with shoulder problems threw only 13 pitches before motioning to the dugout. Glavine, who had been sidelined by a hamstring injury, went six innings, allowing two runs and six hits, with one walk and two strikeouts. He threw 93 pitches and probably felt fine about 91 of them.

In the third, though, the 42-year-old served up a 1-0 pitch that Zimmerman drove over the wall in left-center. Then Johnson stepped up and sent an 0-1 pitch over the out-of-town scoreboard in right-center, putting the hosts ahead 2-1 and giving the Nationals their first back-to-back homers since September.

Jones' eighth homer, a solo shot off Tim Redding in the sixth, tied the score at 2.

Redding left after that inning, having allowed two runs and four hits.
