The most powerful way to fight against various diseases and to improve the quality of life is to consume fish oil on a regular basis. Omega 3 fish oil supplements are available on the market. But, in addition to finding the best omega 3 oil, you also need to be cautious in its dosage amount. Overdose of omega 3 oil sometimes proved to be extremely harmful for overall health. In this article, we are going to discuss some overdose symptoms of omega 3 oil.
Omega 3 oil comes with fatty acids – DHA and EPA – and some amounts of vitamin A and D as well which are abundantly found in fish. While there are numerous other sources of getting vitamin A and D in the body, DHA and EPA are mainly only consumed through fish oil. Overdose of omega 3 capsules can increase the levels of vitamin D in our body which might prove to be detrimental to health. Overdose symptoms of omega 3 oil may include hardening of arteries and weakening of bones. If these conditions occur, immediately stop taking omega 3 capsules and consult your doctor.
Excess of everything is harmful and omega 3 fatty acids are no different. Overdose symptoms of omega 3 oil are more noticeable in patients suffering from other health conditions like asthma, high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes.
In diabetic patients, constant bleeding is often seen as a symptom of overdose of DHA. This is because of high or unstable insulin levels in their body. They should immediately stop taking omega 3 oil and seek medical assistance. However, normal side effects may include nausea, upset stomach and cramps, sleepiness, bad mouth taste (especially after eating a meal), skin rash and acne. These symptoms might go away after a few days when your body gets used to the new intake of fatty acids, but if they keep coming back, check with your doctor.
Pregnant women should specially watch out their dosage of omega 3 oil. Overdose may cause abnormalities in the baby. Vegetarians should not consume DHA and EPA directly because they come from an animal source. They can obtain these fatty acids indirectly by using flax seed oil capsules that contain alpha linolenic acid (ALA). However, pregnant women should find a direct way of transferring these fatty acids to their baby. If the above-mentioned overdose symptoms of omega 3 oil occur, the patient should immediately seek medical help.
