Health issues were starting to be a problem for me and I wanted to reduce my risks, so I decided I needed a more permanent solution than simple dieting. I looked at Gastric Bypass surgery but felt that was too drastic, having part of my stomach cut away to make the small pouch, even though it is completely reversible.
So I decided on a gastric band. This means that a band is positioned around the outside of the stomach and once fluid is added to it, it causes a restriction, forming a small pouch at the top. You then can only eat limited amounts of food as this small pouch fills quickly and gives you a feeling of being full. You drastically cut down on the amount of food you eat causing you to lose weight easily and it makes it difficult, unless you continually overeat and stretch the pouch, to put weight back on.
Fluid is added through a port that is situated under the skin of your abdomen and the thinner you get the more obvious this may get, but it is in no way uncomfortable. The band gives you no sensation of at all.
There are rules to follow once the band is in place. Chew your food carefully, eat slowly, eat a sensible diet, avoid too many sweets, never drink for a half hour after eating, avoid white bread, rice and pasta for example. But if you abide by them there should be very few problems.
My weight has gone down remarkably and although I still have some to lose to get to my ideal weight my health problems have resolved and I feel so much better in myself.
